Father's Day

{Pictures of Fort Lauderdale seen from the Intercoastal and from the ocean }

Today in the US we celebrate our fathers.

For some it’s a joyful celebration and a family gathering with brunch or dinner. For others, the day brings back sweet memories as we remember our dads. And yet, there are some, like a friend of mine, who would rather not think about that day.

In my family, my husband will be honored by our children and grandchildren as we go out to have brunch together. We treasure those moments when the little ones present him with cards, flowers or “art” made especially for him.

  • My father passed away years ago, but I always remember him during the week preceding Father’s day as his birthday fell near by. I have a framed picture of my father, sitting at his desk, writing or reading, piles of paper concealing the wood surface. He was a professor and a writer with more than twenty published books. My mother was not allowed to fix the clutter on his desk, absolute chaos according to her. He called it his personal arrangement, swearing he could find any paper instantly.

  • For our next contest (#6) tell us what Father’s Day means for you and post it on the blog.
  • MAKE SURE YOU SIGN the mailing list in the box on the left of the post.

  • Here is a list of new books. The others have already been won.
  • Paranormal Romance: Jacob by Jacquelyn Frank, The Nightwalkers series.

  • Rogue, The Cat Star Chronicles by Cheryl Brook

  • Thriller: Almost Dead by Lisa Jackson

  • HQ Windows Dressing by Nikki Rivers

  • The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot

  • Several medical romances: His Very Special Nurse by Margaret McDonagh

  • The Single Dad's Marriage Wish by Carol Marinelli,

  • Her Man Of Honour by Melanie Milburne,

  • Christmas-Day Fiancee by Lucy Clark

  • The Sheikh Surgeon's Proposal by Olivia Gates
  • Copies of my own romantic suspense ebooks: To Love A Hero and French Peril.

  • OR exotic magnets to post on your fridge: penguin from Chili, St. Petersburg Cathedral, wine bottle from Napa Valley, windmill from Holland, tango dance from Argentina, coach from New Orleans, a thermometer from Malta, Hawaii dancers.

If you like to travel and love to read, come and enjoy my international romances. I will take you around the world through stories that simmer with emotion and sizzle with heat.

Yay! I'm the first to comment. First I have to say Happy Father's day to my dad, Eddie, he probably won't read this, but hey it's the though.

Father's Day means a lot to me and my dad. Growing up he wasn't apart of my life very much...not by choice. My birth mother would never let us around him. I pretty much missed the first 19 Father's Day's with him. Now me and my dad are really close, he's one of my best friends and someone I hope my son's someday will be like.

Every year we have a tradition. We get up early in the morning and go fishing until about one or two in the afternoon. Then we have a bar-b-que with our family. Every year I write my dad a poem about what he means to me, about our relationship, etc. We then watch the NASCAR race.

It just wouldn't be the same without him, I almost lost him three years ago and then about a month ago to a heart attack and heart surgery. Even though he isn't able to go fishing in the morning, we are still going, maybe not as long as usual, but it's tradition and my father loves tradition.

I hope your father's have a wonderful day as well!

Tonya, I hope your dad can read what you wrote here. I'm so happy you found him and enjoy him now. I'm sure he cherishes your poem. Enjoy the fishing trip and the Nascar race. Thank you for sharing.

Happy Father's Day. I know Father's Day is not as big of a deal to some people, but I always make sure I remember to buy my dad a card and a gift. It's harder to shop for my dad. I usually give him the same stuff I get him on birthdays and Christmas, like wallets, key cases, shirts and wine.

Mona, what a wonderful tribute to fathers. I didn't know yours was a published author, but I'm not surprised. :)

MONA--My daddy died suddenly in 1985. He was walking to the barn to see about a cow having a calf. Mother walked beside him. Halfway there, he dropped to the ground and was probably gone by the time he hit.Massive coronary. No one suspected he had a problem, and it hit us all hard. My daddy told us girls every day we were pretty and he loved us. My mother was not so demonstrative. He only finished fourth grade--he wanted to quit, so his parents let him work on the farm instead. He could not read--at least not enough to read a newspaper or fill out his expense form every week--Mother did everything for him. He never sat down--worked at or on something from daylight until dark.I loved him with all my heart, and I still remember exactly what he looked like. And I remember the hug and kiss I received every day, with the comment,"You sure look pretty today, honeybunch." He said that to me and my sisters--and our mother. Celia

Mona,
I enjoyed reading how you celebrate this special day, and you must be proud of your professor/author father. I met your hubbie at the booksigning and he's pretty special too! Have a great day and thanks for sharing.
My dad has passed on, and the father of my children is no longer around, but my darling Ralph and I celebrate his day together. I took him to Cafe L'Europe on Friday night, and it was absolutely wonderful. Today we are headed over to his sisters for an early dinner, Italian style. I better go hungry!

Beth, my dad wrote serious literature books, one collection of poems he composed for my mother, and one biography of Edgar Allen Poe.

Celia, your dad reminds of my dad who always said, with two wonderful daughters like mine who needs sons.

Patrice, I'm glad you have a wonderful man to celebrate father's day with.

My dad passed away in 2006, and I still miss him dreadfully. I celebrated with my son who lives in Houston with his father. My son in England called. I'm going to be a grandmother for the second time!

My dad died many years ago and he is missed. He was an ectremely hard worker and a great provider for his family. He read voraciously and was self-educated since he had to leave school very young to help out his Mother and siblings since his father died young. He loved listening to opera every Saturday afternoon. Of course, at the time I was young and didn't appreciate it much.
