Sick or Writer's Block

Happy Valentine to my friends.

I have been trying to post for almost two weeks, but couldn't get myself to write a single line on this blog. Nothing I felt passionate enough to talk about.

So how did I spent my two weeks? I was sick for four days during the first week and four days during the second. I'm still not feeling good. But I tried to use my time in a productive way and edited two manuscripts. I hope to be ready to submit them soon.
I also started a new story and wrote one chapter. Yesterday I was so sick I couldn't sit at my computer, I read a book. It was a wonderful HQ medical romance by Lynne Marshall called the Christmas Baby Bump. I read it in one sitting. Great pace, amazing voice full of emotion with characters that leap out of the pages.

Today we had a booksigning but I was too tired to dare and drive for an hour to the Boca Library. My husband volunteered to take me and waited for me. How about that for a Valentine gift? Isn't that better than flowers or a box of chocolate?

The booksigning was organized by Rose Lawson for the Florida Romance Writers (FRW).
In the picture from left back row: Mona, Marcia King-Gamble, Traci Hall, Nancy Cohen, Cynthia Thomason, Carol Stephenson, Patrice Wilton, Pearl Wolfe, Jan Wasburn,.
Front: Kathy Pickering, Kristin Wallace, Rose Lawson, Heather Graham, Mary Ricksen, Sue Peek. (Picture from Carol Stephenson)

I read that beautiful thought two days ago:
Remember the past with gratitude
Face the present with enthusiasm
Dream of the future with faith

So what do you do when you are sick or tired or simply can't get yourself to do a thing?

If you like to travel and love to read, come and enjoy my international romances. I will take you around the world through stories that simmer with emotion and sizzle with heat.

And Happy Valentine's Day to you. If I never see another chocolate-covered strawberry will be too soon for me. (There's something about that combination that really makes me cringe.)
Writer's block on bloggin--no, so far I've had too much to say or write about, but I only post once a week. No way can I do every day--that would even bore me! So I try ot make each week's post an "event", something special instead of just talking. However, I've read numerous blogs where the author could just talk and I was riveted! I suppose that's the sign of a good author--Celia

Happy Valentine's Day, Mona. Gosh, I've had writers block for a couple of weeks and blogs are always hard for me to write.

Mona, I love your posts. You always show the best pictures, and your secret weapon, (DH Sam),is always there to support you.
You have led a most spectacular life and you share the tales of your travels. It's the closest I'll ever get to see those wonderful places and I am thrilled to read about them from a friends standpoint!
You rock Mona!
And I love your beautiful, sexy, accent, so I missed you there!
I live writers block!

Hi Mona,

We all get the blues from time to time. When I get down, I find time to do things I love, whether its to sit and watch the ocean, read a book, or even nap.

Once I recharge my batteries, I think about the ideas on my plate and I fall in love with one of them. Then it's not work at all. I love "working" on projects that I'm passionate about.

Hope you find your mojo soon.

Hugs! Maggie

Always enjoy reading what you write, Mona, even when you're in a slump.

I totally relate to the lack of inspiration, Mona. I often resort to recipes because I can't think of anything to blog about.

Thanks for posting that lovely picture, and get well!

lovely blog, Mona. Sometimes I just try to think of something no one else would write. Sometimes I just can't gather enough care, especially if I've already blogged double my share.I grab guests. My personal blog is sorely neglected!

Hi Celia--You have a beautiful blog with an interesting story every week.

Hi Linda, see! That's excatly what I mean. It's like you come to talk in public and nothing comes out.

Mary, you are so good for my ego. You just gave me a boost of confidence.

Mona Risk said...

Maggie-- that's excatly what I did yesterday, watch a movie and read a book. Maybe I need to allow myself to do that more often, instead of planning my day minute by minute.

Thank you Toni. Glad you enjoy the posts.

Barbara, you made me smile. Recipes are good ideas, but unfortunately not my forte. I prefer to upload pictures. It's easier.

Mary, just by saying something no one would write, you gave me a terrific idea. Since I owe it to you, I will post on the Pink Fuzzy Slippers.

Happy Valentine's Day Mona:)
((((HUGS))))...Everyone's entitled to a day where all they do is goof off and read a good book! And if it lasts a bit longer than one day....that's okay too:)

Happy Valentine's to you, Mona! I hope you're feeling better. Being sick can definately be a blocker to writing.

The boys are getting balloons and a chocolate covered strawberry from me.

Smiles
Steph

Hi Steph, Happy Valentine to you too.

I'm still sick, but fighting it hard with hot tea, hot soup, hot water. I must have burned my throat and stomach by now, but at least I am sitting at my computer again.

That saying is beautiful. I'll have to print it out by my computer. I've been forcing myself to face writer's block each day when I try to get my 1000 words in. Sometimes I make it, other times I try and catch up. When I can't go forward with the plot, I go backward and try to add little items I missed, like what someone looks like or what they're wearing. I have a difficult time with description, and sometimes use the Internet to find clothes for the heroine to wear.

Morgan, in a workshop I took a few years ago, Roxanne St. Claire showed us with a before and after scene from one of her books, how to revive a dying scene. Essentially she removed internal thoughts and narrative, and replacesd them with action and snappy dialog with some sensual tension. It was great.

Thank you for the Valentines wish, and especially for mentioning my Medical Romance, The Christmas Baby Bump. The season is over, but I'm glad you read it and enjoyed it. Thanks for spreading the word!

Lynne, welcome to the Wild Rose Press where all authors are very friendly and expert at promotion. I love your book. I was re-reading it today to study the internal conflict.
