I Did It

Last night I was watching an old video tape of My Fair Lady to relax and put myself to sleep. Remember that scene with Professor Higgins, Captain Pickering and Eliza in the background? Mr. Higgins is singing: “I did it”, when he manages to change the scruffy flower girl into the belle of the British society.

Two days ago, we heard loud shrieks coming from various states. “I did it,” several friends and fellow writers squealed after receiving phone calls announcing that their entries were Golden Heart finalists.

“I did it,” many Roses share their good news on TWRP loop when receiving 4 or 5 stars reviews while others jump up and down and announce their first sales. I did it!! I did it!!

Allow me to share my little story as I, too, want to say, I did it. Last year, I smiled with delight when I stepped on the scale and realized I reached my ideal weight. Hmm...unfortunately I stopped smiling as I loaded back ten pounds. Maybe I can do it again.

"I did it,” I shouted a few months ago when my contemporary romance Rx FOR TRUST was a finalist in Epicon.

“I did it,” I sighed with relief when I successfully presented a talk to my former company and received a standing ovation.

“I did it,” my daughter told me on the phone when she was finally able to walk with high heels after a difficult year of ankle surgery, cast, therapy and special care.

And now, I am ready to dance again as my fifth book will be released in ten days. Yes, I am counting the days.

An American Pediatrician

A Russian Surgeon

A woman who lost a son and frantically avoids marriage and family

A man with four adorable sons who badly need a mother

Can attraction and love overcome guilt, duty, and a clash of cultures?

I am sure you all have success stories. Would you care to share them with us?

I love My Fair Lady. What a good intro for a great blog post, and a big high five to you, Mona. Well let's see, I finished my light paranormal 'short'that took me much of the winter to write and got it submitted to my faery rose editor. And my historical editor and I are finally wrapping up work in the 'short' I spent all summer and much of the fall on. These shorts take a lot of research & inspiration.

Congrats sweet lady:) Looking forward to both Rx books!!

My 'I did it!' moment? Getting my first official contract back in 2009:) I danced around the room while my dau was IM-ing her BFF after checking my email for me. "Cool. Mom's porn is going to be published."

Also, when ASEW went to #3 on the ARE Best Seller list:)

Now I'm waiting for another 'I did it' moment...

I did it! What fun!

My latest "I did it" involves self-publication. I had the rights revert to a story on my backlist. I was able to update SEEING RED and then upload it to Kindle and Smashwords. I'm nearly done proofing the galley and it will soon issue as a trade paperback for the first time ever.

Cool beans!

Beth, I am so glad we are going to read more of your stories soon. I've never written a short story. You're given me a lot to think about as I thought it was easier to write than a long one.

Linda, you are in the right blog with your own My Fair Lady!

Molly, I'm glad to see you here and I am applauding Mom's porn. LOL. You daughter has a great sense of humor. Congrats on the bestselling book.

Maggie, I am bowing to you. Congrats on your first self-published book. I have witnessed NY bestsellers seriously discussing this route. It's the way to go now. I may ask you for advice when needed.

My biggest I did it was driving myself to the New Jersey conference eight hours away and not getting lost! I was flying high when I pulled into that parking lot, singing "You're simply the best" along with Wynonna. An unforgettable moment for me :) As was an unforgettable moment later that night, when the winners of the Golden Leaf awards were announced. Just thinking of that day and night brings me confidence. Good topic, Mona!

Mona, I love My Fair Lady. That story really pulls on the heartstrings. Congrats to doing "it!" Weight loss is a constant life style change, Sweetie. You have to be focused. You can do it and I'm right there with you!

Can't wait to read RX in Russian!

Yeah Liana, for driving eight hours and not getting lost. I would have for sure. And congrats on the Golden Leaf. Well deserved.

Hi Steph, I am trying hard with Weight Watchers. Well not continuously. I get nervous, ignore discipline and blow the whole diet. your example is a driving force.

Mona, I love the blog. Will need to think about my successes. I'll have some when I get my books self-published! I'm tutoring a lot and that's a good thing. Several skeptical parents are now converts! Guess that counts.

Kudos on the new release. It sounds great. I really nee dto talk to you about writing Russina characters.

My big 'I did it' recently, I'm going to be part of a panel speaking at RWA Nationals this June. I never dreamt this would happen for me. I'm both excited and nervous.

Here's to new experiences and accomplishments.

Mary, give yourself a pat on the back. Tutoring children is a major accomplishment. I remember my days as substitite teacher and my troubles with kids.

Mona Risk said...

Autumn, I wish I was going to RWA. I so want to hear you. I know you'll do a great job.

Mona, congrats! And I love "My Fair Lady" also.

I'm not feeling very "I Did It" today so I'll just sit back and bask in everyone else's. ;-)
