Triplets!!!

My cousin is expecting triplets. Her pregnancy is a long journey. After three months of bed rest, she's now in the hospital under continuous supervision because she's developed eclampsia. She's made it to 33 weeks. The doctor needs her to reach 36 weeks unless her condition worsens. The longer she keeps the babies in, the less time they will spend in the NICU.

IV tubes feed her and sustain her. Her food is restricted, and for two days she was allowed only ice cubes to suck on.

Triplets are a first.

We have three sets of twins in my extended family, but no triplets yet.

I have written three medical romances with twin deliveries but never triplets. She's just inspired my next novel.

And I don't remember seeing triplets in any of Grey's Anatomy shows.

Please, pray for Mary and her triplets.

Mona, how exciting while at the same time very worrisome with your cousin's health challenges. I pray she and the babies all come through this very well. Yes, you have your next novel!

Mona Risk said...

Thank you Beth. So far so good. She's still in one piece, hanging there with a huge belly.

Mona--How exciting, but I sure do feel for the mom. That would be very boring and uncomfortable to stay in bed all the time. Good luck to her and the family--Celia

How exciting! Boy! She'll have her hands full through the years but it will all be worth it! Sending prayers to Mary and the babies...wishing them all a safe welcome into the world.

That is incredible! Did they have any idea it was triplets or was this a wonderful surprise?

Wishing for those weeks to fly by until she reaches the magic 36 weeks. Best of luck to her and the babies!

Triplets. And in this heat! I, too, hope and pray for those 3 weeks to fly by. Does she have a Kindle to read to help occupy her mind? I'm sure it gets mentally tiring to be bedridden for so long no matter how much she wants to do right by her precious babies. Keep us informed. Oh, can't wait to see pictures...

Wow, that's got to be hard on the mom! And afterward, I can't imagine how you'd cope with three babies at once.

Wishing her all the best!

Hi Celia--yes it's very uncomfortable. She said there are moments she can't breathe.

Mona Risk said...

Hi Judy, thank you for the prayers. She has a lot of faith. When they realized there was three babies, the doctor told her it would be safer to abort one. She absolutely refused, saying God gave me three,I am keeping them.

Hi Laverne, They they found out with the first ultrasound. She was thrilled. The daddy was overwhelmed. Reaching the 36th week will depend on her health. The doc is afraid of toxemia. She's in the first stage but they are monitoring her non stop.

Wow - good luck to your cousin!! what an exciting time

Vonnie, last night I saw Mary on Facebook and asked her if she wanted to read my Osiris' Missing Part. It's a fun book that will keep her entertained. She said yes and I sent it to her. Her mother-in-law-my aunt- is the one losing her calm and worrying about everything possible. LOL

Hugs and prayers for your cousin and safe delivery of those precious angels:) Glad her dr is taking good care of her!

And yes, looking forward to hearing about your next book, lol!

Mona Risk said...

Hi Susan, they are going to need a lot of help. I remember the sleepless nights with my kids and grandchildren. Imagine three.

Mona Risk said...

Hi Traci, we are waiting impatiently and praying. They didn't say if they were boys or girls, if they chose the names or how much they weigh. But three cribs are already set in a bedroom. And they had a shower for her.

Mona Risk said...

Yeah Molly, thank you for dropping by.

Hi, Mona, how exciting and scary at the same time. I am putting Mary and the babies on my church's prayer list. I hope all goes well.

Wow, triplets!! Wishing her a short and safe delivery and many thoughts and prayers for the babies and Mary.

We'll all be waiting to hear about the miracle! 3 babies at once. WOW!

Mary Ricksen said...

Wow, how thrilling! Imagine the women who have five or more!!
It must be so physically rough on her. She will be in my prayers. It's good she has a loving family to be there for her. More little cousins on the way, Yay!!

Mona, my best wishes and prayers to your cousin and her babies. Triplets are exciting. Please let us all know when they're born.

Mona,
Scary and exciting. I'm so glad we live in times with modern obstetrics. In a few long months, the awe and joy will erase the insanity of the pregnancy. The college bill is worrisome, though.

Mona Risk said...

Anna Kathryn, thank you for the prayers. We all hope everything will go well.

Mona Risk said...

Hi Jill, she will deliver by C-section. There is no other way with three.

Mona Risk said...

Hi Mary M, it's really a miracle of modern technology. At first I didn't believe the three would make it. I heard so many awry things from my daughter, the neonatologist, but also so many miracles.

Mona Risk said...

Hi Mary R, it's already terribly hard on her but she doesn't complain, at least not too much. LOL

Mona Risk said...

Hi Cara, you bet I will announce it when it happens. Thank you for the prayers.

Mona Risk said...

Oh Ana, you made me laugh. The college bills will be horendous, but before that the diapers, bottles, carseats, dentists, you name it... The daddy has that vague look about him as if he wonders how on earth he'll make it.

Paisley Kirkpatrick said...

Oh, Mona, how exciting. We need to see photos, please. Keeping positive thoughts for your cousin and her little ones along with lots of prayers. I love babies....

Mona Risk said...

Paisley, I will post photos as soon as I get to see them.

Mona, I'm sure you're family is anxiously awaiting the event. Lots of heartfelt wishes winging their way to mom and babies.

My 10 year old has triplets in his class. They were natural (ie not IVF or anything) so the mom said when she was pregnant she was constantly seen by so many doctors b/c it's so rare for triplets to occur naturally. Apparently, two were the egg splitting and a then another egg was fertilized, but the girtls pretty much appear identical. Fortunately, two have tiny moles on their face in different spots, so we all use that to distinguish amongst them. LOL!

Mona Risk said...

Hi Gabriella, I forgot about that point on how to distinguish them! We are able to distinguish the three sets of twins in my family, but I remember a funny story. At seventeen I dated a guy who had an identical twin and I was desperate cause I could never tell when I saw one of them in the streets if he was the right one or mot! Should I be frienfly or ignore him!

Triplets? How exciting - although I'm sure it's also a bit frightening, too. Here's sending good thoughts for Mom and three healthy babies - bet there'll be no shortage of volunteer babysitters for the little sweeties!
PS - looking forward to seeing whether triplets appear in one of your future books!

Joan Leacott said...

Make notes, lots of notes for your future book. If Mary thinks it's tough now, just wait until they're all crying or crawling at the same time!

Mona Risk said...

Hi glenys, I've already offered to take one. LOL I miss holding babies in my arms. I took care of my oldest granddaughter for the first six months of her life while her mom had to go back to work after only four weeks, and then took care of number two for two months. Now my youngest baby is 5. I'm so glad you read my books.

Mona Risk said...

Hi Joan, I laughed at your very realistic view of the situation. Three babies screaming at the same time, three toddlers crawling or running together. Ouch, I forgot about that!!! Glad I am not the grandma. LOL

Autumn Jordon said...

Oh, I'm late. I so hope everything is still okay and all are safe. So exciting to have triplets. Please keep us informed. Prayers coming Mary's way.

Mona Risk said...

Never too late Autumn. As far as I know, they aren't born yet.

Mona Risk said...

This is exciting! Big prayers your way. It is so exciting to have three little beings to brighten the world. I know this has to be hard but I pray the bonding of the three babies through life will allow them to conquer mountains while enriching the lives of their parents.

Give hugs to Mom and tell her to hang tough and people are praying for her.

Mona Risk said...

Thank you so much Karen. I will sure tell her many are praying for her and her babies.

Helen Scott Taylor said...

Good luck to your cousin, Mona. What an exciting and difficult time for her. I can't imagine having three babies to look after at the same time. Hope it all goes well. Do post some pictures after the babies arrive.
