Pierce Brosnan, my favorite actor and inspiration.

I can't describe a hero without a clear picture of him in front of me.

While writing my work in progress, a medical romance set in Belarus, Prescription in Russian, I placed Pierce Brosnan’s picture next to my computer. It stays there for three months squinting at me.

I asked Pierce to lend his heart-stopping smile and suave charm to my hero, Dr. Fyodor Vassilov. Can you understand now why the heroine, Dr. Jillian Burton, an American physician on a mission to Belarus, loses her heart to the gorgeous doctor in spite of her life-long pledge never to fall in love? Can you resist a Pierce Brosnan’s look-alike? I couldn’t. By the time I typed the END to my manuscript I was head over heels in love with my hero—whether his name was Fyodor or Pierce.

Pierce Brosnan was born in Ireland in a catholic family, but his father abandoned his mother. Pierce was raised by his mother and grandparents. He left Ireland at 10 and moved to England with his mother. He planed to be a painter but studied drama. As a little boy, Pierce was a great fan of James Bond, and was offered his first James Bond role in 1986. Critics claimed he was a better Bond than his predecessor, Roger Moore. He starred in six Bond movies.

I personally love him in The Thomas Crown Affair, a light suspense comedy he played with Rene Russo about a billionaire playboy who challenges himself at stealing art work from the Louvre Museum until a lovely detective decides to put an end to his infuriating hobby.

Laws of Attraction was even better. He starred with Julianne Moore in the story of two divorce attorneys who don’t believe in love and compete against each other in court but become attracted to each other.

And recently have you seen him singing in Mamma Mia? According to an interview with Reader’s Digest, Pierce said he’d accepted the role as soon as his agent said, 'Meryl Streep, Mamma Mia!' And he was trained by two singers from the Sweedish pop group ABBA who created the musical Mamma Mia.

From painter to actor and director, Pierce Brosnan can do anything he sets his heart at.

Don’t you just love him!!!

Thanks Brosnan's fan for giving this website. I saved it as a favirite link. You'll see me often there.

Molly, you should have seen him in Laws of Attraction. I saw that movie 5 times and fimally bought the video.

Mona Risk said...

Debora, I know I didn't like him in a singing comedy, but after seeing the movie three times, he grew on me. LOL Wish it was true. LOL

Mona Risk said...

Beth, isn't his smile something. When I wrote Prescription in Russia, just finished it, I enjoyed the writing and kissing scenes more than the heroine. LOL

Mona Risk said...

Brosnangirl, thanks for the link. I signed the guestbook. See you then and here often. Remember to read my book, Prescription in Russian, it was written with OPierce in mind.

Cheryl, believe you write better when Pierce smiles at you. Yummy!!!

The Bond films were great, as was the Thomas Crown Affair and Rules of Attraction, but nothing compares to Remington Steele. Great post!

And he's aged well too.
I pictured a young Sean Connery for my second story. (The one you are looking at). It helped!! (grin)

Okay, I admit, I'm not a huge Pierce Brosnan fan, but I did really like him in Mama Mia.

I loved the post. I also start with an image in mind for my hero. Sometimes the hero has other ideas of what he looks like and I have to adjust, but I always have a visual with which to start.

Thanks Mona.

Mona Risk said...

Jennifer, I didn't see Remington Steele but I wrote it down. I have to see it if you guys like it so much.

Mona Risk said...

Lynne, you are right. My hero too prefers to be his own man sometimes. LOL

Mona Risk said...

Mary, now that you mention it, it will picture Sean Connery while reading about your Sean.

Mona--Pierce Brosnan can do no wrong. No wonder you want him as your model hero.I loved all the photos of him--I drooled over everyone. It's odd that he can be smug, cool, and tough--and turn right around and be cute, funny, and suave. That's the mark of a good actor. Nice post! Celia

I've liked Pierce since the first time I saw him being interviewed on TV. He seems so down to earth and calm unlike some actors who can't seem to sit still when being interviewed. His smile lights up a room. His laughter chases away any gloom. Yeah, I see why you'd pick him as your hero.

Francesca Prescott said...

Mona! I love Pierce too! And there's a moment in the Thomas Crown Affair that is so cute...I don't know if you noticed it, but it's when they're on the beach, and he's in his swimsuit, and the camera pans to him and he sucks in his tummy! Awww!

Oh, and I loved him in Mamma Mia too, and didn't mind at all that his singing skills weren't first rate. I thought it made him even more endearing. I also like that his teeth aren't perfect. He's got a special twinkly sexy something!

When I wrote "Mucho Caliente!", I had a poster of Ricky Martin on the wall beside my computer :) I know what you mean about needing a "face" to put on your hero. I'm doing the same thing again right now. But I'm not saying who it is! Not yet, anyway!

Thanks for a lovely blog. It made my smile.
xx Francesca

Trying to remember the title of a movie I saw Pierce in a while back. It was an independent film, I believe, about a black half-Irish young man who came to Ireland to meet his white uncle. I have it in my movie stock somewhere, but don't have time to look. Pierce plays the jilted boyfriend of the young man's mother before she left to go to America. Loved it!

I'm with you on Pierce. Mona. He's one of my inspirations too.

Oh My! Pierce is one of my favorites, too. He's definitely on "my list" (you know the one from F.R.I.E.N.D.S.?). I also happen to have a picture of him on display next to my computer.

I love him in "Thomas Crown"...they were supposed to make a sequel and never did...bummer, and in "Laws of Attraction". "After the Sunset" is another fave.

And hands down, he's the BEST Bond. (Sorry Sean.) I first fell in love with Pierce as Bond. *dreamy sigh*

Jana Richards said...

Hi Mona,
I agree with a lot of people here who loved Pierce Brosnan in "Remington Steele". You don't remember it? It was an eighties TV show and Pierce Brosnan was about as gorgegous a guy as I'd ever seen on TV at that time. He played a very suave detective and did it well.

I liked him in "Mama Mia" but singing is definitely not his forte!

Celia- His smile is unbelievable. I just love him, tough and smug or cute and kind. The real hero.

Mona Risk said...

CJ, you lucky girl you saw him being interview on TV. That's reminds that once we won a night at the Beverly Hilton. That samr night there was a fundraiser ball and all the actors were here. I had a blast staying at the door of the lobby and looking at them.

Mona Risk said...

Cesca-- I am going to look at the Thomas Crown Affair again. I have the movie. Need to see him suck in his belly. LOL

Mona Risk said...

Jean, put his picture next to you. He's done wonders to my morale and my hero. LOL

Did I tell you I spent a week in Australia and four days in Fiji? I was dying to go to New Zealand but couldn't stay too long away from my mother.

Mona Risk said...

Debra, I read somewhere that they are making a sequel to the Thomas Crown Affair. I can't wait to see it.

Mona Risk said...

Jana-- No he can't sing even though he seriously tried to learn from the ABBA. I prefer him serious and smiling, not jumping and singing with a husky voice.

Mona Risk said...

Autumn-- I have to see that Remington Steele movie, can't believ I missed it.

Laws of Attraction is one of my all time favorites. Perfect love story. Even as a sloppy lawyer, he was sexy as hello.

Patsy

Mona Risk said...

Sloppy lawyer?! Come on PL I am shocked. LOL But sexy as hell is correct!!

Pierce was divine in THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR. I have seen it almost as often as GWTW. I have even outlined the plot of TTCA because I think it is one of the absolute BEST suspense plots. If I could meld it into a story that could work for me, I would!
And btw, WHO KNEW that Pierce could sing? He made the movie, for moi.

Mona Mia, Mona Mia!!!

I'm a Pierce Brosnan fan too! His personality fairly leaps off the screen - right at me. Go figure!

You made an interesting point, that of putting an inspirational photo near your monitor. My husband was not happy with me for a bit when I first started writing because I had guy pictures taped to the edge of my monitor. In all fairness I had girl pictures too. All of them were decent, but there was something about each picture that shouted "character" to me.

Enjoyed the post.

You have to love those Irish boys. ;-)

Interesting that you model your hero's looks after someone in particular. I love seeing the way other writers go about things!

Nightingale said...

He is the inspiration for many heroes, it seems. I used a younger Pierce for my hero in Black Swan, Tristan McLaghlan. I love those blue eyes! And he was the best Bond ever.
